Off the Bone, Limerick City

Happy New Year everyone! We are so excited here at Galavanting Ireland about 2017 and all the Galavant’s we have planned! Lots of us meet up over Christmas and New year with friends and family that we haven’t seen in a while. So last weekend I was really looking forward to meeting up with two friends and we were well overdue a catch up. I had heard a lot about the new Off the Bone restaurant in Limerick city. It is part of the South Court Hotel in Dooradoyle. The rates were incredibly reasonable on Saturday night so we decided to check in for the night too (sure why not!). The hotel is situated just off the M7 and M18 so its really easy to get to and there is a great big car park in front of the Hotel so no worries there either.

When we arrived in the Hotel Jane nearly had a conniption when she realised that the Hotel has a starbucks cafe within the Hotel! She was already planning what she was going to get the following morning before her trip back up to Dublin. When we arrived at the Hotel we made a reservation for dinner in “Off the bone”. The restaurant was nearly fully booked as it was a Saturday night so we were delighted that we got one of the last tables!

We checked into our lovely spacious room (two queen beds! :)) and had a peek online on the menu for the night. We made our way downstairs and met up with Sarah in the Lobby. We were met by a lovely lady inside the door of the restaurant and given our table for the night. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the restaurant that night with a real funky vibe to it. They have really got the balance between a pub and a restaurant perfect here. There were tables of family’s having a few drinks of a Saturday night and then lots of other tables enjoying food.

We were offered a drink when we sat down and I am delighted to tell you that they do LARGE glasses of wine! (Horray scream all the wine drinkers!) The drinks menu is pretty impressive, and not something you would expect to find outside of Dublin. The prices I am glad to tell you were a lot more reasonable. They have their own craft beer on draught, a lovely selection of wines by the glass, large glass and bottle and a pretty fab selection of cocktails too.

We then turned our attention to the food. Were we having starters? Most definitely. There was a good selection on the starters that included a separate salad selection also. I would usually always order mussels if I see them on a menu but I decided to go with the fishcake and the girls had the chicken wings. The service was prompt which was great as we were all starving. I got two nice big fish cakes which surprisingly not 99% potatoes. There was so much fish in it that the girls ended up with food envy. I didn’t try their wings but the blue cheese dressing was to die for!

For our main courses we had a selection of steaks, burgers, ribs, pasta, lamb, chicken and so much more to choose from. I went for the signature burger and the two girls went for steaks. We also ordered a side of mac and cheese with truffle oil (still raving about this and I would go back for this alone!). The sides were quite decent and I can tell you none of this lasted very long! The service was attentive all the way through the meal and we didn’t have to ask for extra drinks, they were offered straight away.

We had the chocolate fudge cake for dessert between the three of us and that really finished us off. At this stage a cocktail would have been a perfect way to finish off the meal but we decided to have more wine!

There was some signage in the restaurant also for specials that were being offered during the week. Wine down Wednesday is something I am definitely going to check out (are we seeing a trend here?). Buy two glasses of wine and get the rest of the bottle for free! On a Tuesday night they offer a burger and a craft beer for €12.50! That’s pretty good value.

There was music in the hotel that night so you could have easily settled down for the evening but we decided to check out the bright lights of Limerick city! The Hotel is a short 5 minute drive to Henry street where you will find a lot of the bars and pubs. We headed for Denmark street and the lovely Nancy Blakes. This is a good spot to visit if you want a bit of a dance (but not be crammed into a nightclub) and to meet lots of interesting people! 🙂

Breakfast the next morning was another win. There was a great selection for the continental breakfast. A new first for me for a hotel breakfast buffet- a pancake maker! These were going down a treat with all the kids and Jane of course! There was also a lovely hot food selection and a menu if you wanted something other than a fry up. Breakfast is served in a separate restaurant just past reception. You also have the Starbucks cafe on the ground floor and an Indian restaurant to choose from.

So if you are looking for a destination for your next catch up then look no further. The South Court do really good deals at the weekend and they have a pretty epic sale going on at the moment. I have attached the link to off the bone below and also the Hotel website! As always – Happy Galavanting! xxx
