The 4 peaks Challenge 2019

Happy 2019 everyone! We are really looking forward to another year of Galavanting and very excited about our first blog post of 2019. A little while ago I heard of a group of friends, all based in Co Meath, who had decided to climb the tallest peak in each province. Slieve Donard in County Down, Mweelrea in County Mayo, Lugnaquilla in Co Wicklow and Carrauntoohil in Co Kerry. These are 4 very demanding hikes but this group of men have decided to attempt to climb all 4 peaks in the space of 30 hours!

I decided to document their challenge as they are doing these climbs for three very worthy charities. Barretstown, Pieta House and Make a wish. They are challenging themselves with these hikes and stepping outside of their comfort zone. Some of these guys have zero hiking experience!

It all began with a trip up Slieve Donard last summer. All the guys met at the Fitness Academy in Athboy and they have taken regular outside trips with other members of the gym. Tom and Eoin started chatting on the way back down Slieve Donard about how great it would be to climb the highest peak in each province and raise money for charity too- and so the 4 peaks challenge 2019 was born.

Speaking to the guys in the Fitness Academy, all five of them are really looking forward to the 21st of June. It wasn’t by accident that they chose the longest day of the year for daylight. They are hoping to start the clock at the foot of Carrauntoohil early in the morning of the 21st, make their way up to Mayo for Mweelrea in the afternoon, start Slieve Donard in County Antrim that night and finish up at the summit of Lugnaquilla hopefully in the afternoon of the 22nd. I’m tired even thinking about it but this team have the enthusiasm and hunger to smash this challenge right out of the water!

Its like a big family in the Fitness Academy. They organise regular trips outside of the gym for all of the members and they are great for Galavanting around Ireland! Its also a great way to discover the exhilarating walks and beautiful scenery around the country. 45 of the members have already signed up for Quest Glendalough (Something I would love to be fit enough to do next year!).

We wish Eoin, Gavin, Tom, Senan and Bryan all the very best of luck with this challenge. They want to raise as must funds as they can for their chosen charities. Barretstown, Pieta House and Make a Wish.

To donate to these very worthy charities and help the guys reach their target you will find their go fund me page here.

You can also follow their progress with training and preparations on their instagram page and facebook page. All of their fundraising events will also be available to view on their website.

I think we can all get inspiration from the 5 guys to get out their, push yourself and go Galavanting! x
