We have all been missing friends and family over the past few months- some of us didn’t even get to catch up over Christmas. So when the vaccine roll-out is finished (some time soon hopefully) it would be great to get away with friends, family, old school friends and celebrate getting together again. So here’s our top picks for the best reunion breaks that won’t break the bank.
Searches were for the bank holiday weekend in August for 2 nights or the weekend of the 8th-10th August. All prices are correct as of the 26th March 2021. We searched for 6 adults.
A newly refurbished townhouse right in the middle of Drumshambo village. A short walk from the new Shed Distillery (The home of Gunpowder gin) and the beautiful boardwalk on Acres lake. There is a 6.5 km linear walking and cycling trail from Acres Lake to Battlebridge Lock, near Leitrim Village. The Allen centre in Drumshambo also provides Kayak hire and boat hire.

Situated only a 20 minute walk into Cork City Centre. These apartments are part of the UCC complex so they are well laid out. Take a trip into the English Market, take a walk around Fitzgerald park or just wile away the afternoon in one of the many cafes, bars and restaurants that make Cork so inviting. The shopping is pretty decent too.

This beautiful houseboat on the grand canal in Sallins looks like the quirkiest getaway ever! Bring the bike and cycle along the grand canal or just take a walk. Sallins is a beautifully picturesque village with lots of nice restaurants and pubs.

If you really want to get away from it all for a reunion then this hotel is situated in the most beautiful part of Connemara at Maam cross. Take one of the many hiking trails near the hotel, visit Kylemore Abbey, check out the quiet man replica house or just relax in the hotel catching up.

This hotel has undergone a complete refurbishment in recent years. Their new Off the bone Gastro pub is the perfect spot for cocktails and dinner for a great catch up session. Its a short walk to the Cresent shopping centre for those of you in need of retail therapy. When you venture into the city check out King Johns castle- read the blog here on our visit. When I think of Carrick on Shannon I think of groups of crazy hen and stag parties- but it does actually have so much more to it. The Coutyard apartments are great self contained units so you don’t even need to venture out! When you do though, there is a great selection of bars and restaurants. This year may be a bit quieter. Carrick on Shannon is also part of the Shannon Blueway- great for a weekend of paddling!
2 nights for 6 people is €600.
So there you have it- a perfect weekend breakaway for a reunion with those you miss the most. Start planning now as when the government announces reopening dates, the prices and availability will definitely change. Remember to try and always book direct.
