The breakaway list- Romantic galavants

This week we are leaving the kids at home as we plan for a night away for two. Sure the lockdown has been hard on all the family. But for those of us that don’t have kids, and those of us that need a break from homeschooling, its important to look forward to a romantic galavant.

A romantic breakaway may mean different things to different couples. Our idea is a nice trek up a mountain, a romantic meal for two in a hotel and being able to walk a few meters to bed! Oh and also not having to cook my own breakfast the next morning. God I miss going away at the weekend! Other peoples idea of a romantic getaway may be just getting to the room and staying there for the weekend- If ya know what I mean.

Whatever your fancy, we have 5 great romantic getaways for you for under €100 per night per couple. Our search was for the weekend of the 16th July for 2 nights. All prices are correct as of the 19th of March 2021.

  1. The Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin.

Everyone needs a trip to Dublin this year. No where else in Ireland has been hit worse from the Covid 19 restrictions. Lets be honest- we could barely afford a trip to the capital in 2019 with hotel rates being sky high. Leave the car at home, get the bus or train to the city and enjoy two nights in Ballsbridge. Take a walk out to Sandymount strand and Poolbeg lighthouse. Pay a visit to Epic Ireland in the CHQ building- you will not be disappointed. Check out our blog here from our visit in 2016. A trip to Dublin does not have to break the bank!

2 nights for 2 people is €196.00

2. Cill Aodaín Court Hotel, Kiltimagh, Co Mayo

Want to getaway to a small Irish village? To a newly remodelled Hotel? Not too far away from anywhere? This hotel looks like it was just given so much love in the last year. The food looks great too! Only 30 minutes to Westport and Croagh Patrick. You don’t really need to leave Kitimagh for the Weekend though- check out the top ten things to do in Kiltimagh from

2 nights for 2 people is €200

3. The rooms at Cunninghams, Kildare

Only a short spin from Dublin, the rooms at Cunninghams looks like the perfect cosy spot for a romantic break. The rooms look like they are newly refurbished too and they have a Thai chef! If shopping floats your boat then you will be in paradise with Kildare Village only a few minutes away. Stretch your legs around the Curagh, or take the Barrowway from Lowtown for a completely off road walk of the Grand Canal.

2 nights for 2 people is €170

4. River Island Hotel, CastleIsland, Co Kerry

Take a trip to the Kingdom and reconnect. Castleisland is a perfect place to base yourself to visit Tralee or Killarney which are only 20 minutes away by car. There is no need to leave the hotel though, their cosy bar and restaurant is all you need to enjoy a weekend away. Attractions in Castleisland include Crag cave and the Castleisland river walk.

2 nights for 2 people is €185

5. The Harbour Inn, Buncrana, Co Donegal

A trip to the Inishowen penninsula should be on everyones bucket list. Beaches, history, beautiful scenery. This is our idea of heaven in Donegal. The Harbour Inn offers views over Lough Swilly and has a gastro pub also. Attractions nearby include Neds point and walk along the beach, Lisfannon strand, Fort Dunree and so much more. Check out Go Visit Inishowen for inspiration.
